Thank you so much to our Skate Night Chair, Mrs. Richardson, for coordinating this fun annual event for STS families.
Try outs will begin soon for the second annual Talent Show. Stay tuned for more information.
Field Day Chair
We are looking for a Field Day Chair. This is a good opportunity for a working parent as much of the work does not need to be done at school. This is an opportunity to earn all 12 hours!
Duties include: coordination and communication of all information for parents, teachers, PE teachers, and office administration; determining class colors and getting information out; researching a special snack and making arrangements (e.g. Kona Ice); perhaps, making signs or other forms of information to help classes figure out where they are supposed to be and when; working with PE teachers to determine a schedule for the day.
Right now the PTO is quietly preparing for the annual school auction. Invitations are out, and RSVPs are rolling in. We have sponsors committed, and the menu is being finalized.
If you would like to RSVP or learn more details about the auction, click here.
New this year are "Sign Up Parties". These are donated parties that are hosted by someone like you, or you and a group of people. As the host, you pick the date, theme, location, and number of attendees. Your donation to the auction is the party. We will provide you with a tax-deductible receipt for your estimated expenses. This is a great opportunity to donate to the auction, even if you can't attend. For more information, click here.
PTO Meeting February 2, 2018
The PTO had a meeting in Aftercare this part Friday. For updates on school assemblies, Car Raffle, and insider updates from Mr. McLaughlin, please click here.
Yes, it has been awhile since we've put out a newsletter, but the PTO was busy celebrating! We Celebrated Calm, we opened Santa's Workshop, then had lunches for both the students and the teachers! Whew, we are tired, but grateful.
In mid-November, Kirk Martin, founder of Celebrate Calm, presented his strategies for a calmer, gentler household. We hope those of you in attendance both enjoyed his entertaining presentation and walked away with a few new tricks up your sleeve.
At the beginning of December, the amazing Mrs. Pollock ran every student's favorite store: Santa's Workshop. We had a new vendor this year, and we hope everyone liked what they found in their stocking Christmas morning. We know the students love Santa's Workshop, but it couldn't happen without the help and support of our volunteers, like Mrs. Pollock, who was there from setup to cleanup, and those parents who came in to help our students shop - Thank You! We would also like to thank Mrs. Salinas for giving up her Music room for this fundraiser.
We would also like to thank all the parent volunteers who came in to make reindeer Rice Krispie treats as well as the parent volunteers who came in to help serve all the students pizza, drinks, and the reindeer treats.
As carpool was winding down for Christmas break, the PTO was busy at work setting up for a Christmas luncheon to show our teachers how much we love and appreciate them. A big thank you to Mrs. Sylvain for the beautiful centerpieces she created for the luncheon.
February 3 is family skate night, an annual PTO tradition. At it's usual location, Ashburn Ice House, the skate hour is from 6:10 to 7:10. However, we recommend you arrive around 5:30pm to ensure you have time to get your skates and be ready for the fun. Tickets are $5 a person; no more than $20 a family. This includes skate rental, water, chips, and time on the ice. If you have a bike helmet, it's a great way to protect a child's head on the slippery ice.
It’s contest time! Help your child’s class win an extra recess by sending Box Tops in a ziplock bag marked with their homeroom. We’ll be tallying through February 16. Thanks for clipping! We love earning free money for the school! You can also "send in" Box Tops by using the new app. For more information, click here.
As the Christmas season winds down, the PTO gears up for its most social event, the annual Auction. On Saturday, March 3, 2018, pack your bags and grab your "Passport to Paradise" at the Washington Dulles Hilton. For more information, such as buying tickets online, downloading the BidPal app, and ways to get involved, please click here.
New to the auction this year are Signup Parties. These are parties or events on a set date, for a limited number of guests. Slots will be sold at the auction, for a fixed price. Parties or events can be a spa day; a paint party; a sporting event party at someone's house; or a class on how to make a craft or special dish. For more information, please see our BidPal site here. If you are interested in hosting a Signup Party, please contact the PTO at firstname.lastname@example.org.
